Michele Gust, PT, CSCS, CEAS, Pilates Instructor
Founder of South Miami Physical Therapy & Pilates

Michele Gust was born and raised in Miami and graduated from Florida International University’s Physical Therapy Program in 1996. After working in a very large and busy rehab center seeing 4 to 5 patients at the same time, she made it her mission to open her own PT clinic where she could treat patients one-to-one, focusing her full attention on each patient individually so they can recover from their injuries as quickly as possible.

In 2001 she founded Healing Touch Rehabilitation which for the first seven years solely provided Physical Therapy in patients’ homes.

In 2007 she opened her first rehab center in South Miami to combine her advanced manual skills with Pilates-based rehab principles. She uses these techniques to most effectively treat orthopedic dysfunctions, which has proven to get patients back to work, to play, to living as fast as possible!  Over the years, Michele has worked with a number of professional athletes, including Miami Heat basketball players, professional tennis stars on the ATP Tour, cyclists, runners, triathletes, golfers, and dancers.

FAMOUS PEOPLE MICHELE HAS TREATED: ALonso Mourning, Tim Hardaway, Scottie Pippin, Jamal Mashburn, Venus Williams, Cliff Dreysdale, Mary Jo Fernandez, Laurence Tieleman, Cirque du Solei perfomers, actress Katie Finneran, and Ballet Dancers.

She works closely with Miami's top doctors to help keep people from getting unnecessary surgery, provide pre-op conditioning as well as provide full post-surgical rehab and even fitness training and athletic enhancement.  She is available for Ergonomics Consultations, where she modifies workstations and solves on-the-job biomechanic/posture issues.

In 2012, Michele changed the name to South Miami Physical Therapy and Pilates and has incorporated a transitional program into Post-Rehab Pilates/ Healthy Spine Program so the patients can get the maximum benefit out of combining PT with Pilates.  Michele’s caring and compassion for people brings warmth and cheer to her rehab center, and people are guaranteed to walk out every time feeling better than when they arrived!

Aside from her passion for helping people feel better, Michele's biggest passion is being a mom for her beautiful daughter, Sienna and handsome son, Tristan.

Michele's interests and loves include physical fitness, holistic natural healing, outdoor activities, and traveling. Her goal is to help people to have healthier minds, bodies, and spirits so they can feel better, look better, and live their lives to the fullest! She empowers all those around her to truly transform their bodies and lives.

Nelson Aviles,

Physical Therapist

Nelson graduated in 1998 from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia with his Masters Degree in Physical Therapy and immediately returned home to South Florida. Over the last 15 years he has worked in a variety of orthopedic and clinical settings, and though he thoroughly enjoys treating patients, he felt that more direct time teaching patient’s  movement, control and providing hands on therapy  gave his patient’s the best outcome.

Nelson is also a veteran of the US Navy and avid surfer and basketball player. He takes his love of sports and movement into the clinic with him and provides a unique and challenging rehabilitation regardless of a persons age and fitness level.

Nelson has extensive experience providing Pilates based rehab and has recently returned to school to receive his doctoral degree in Physical Therapy.

Jenny
Jenny DeMarziani,
Physical Therapist and Pilates Instructor

Jenny was born and raised in Miami, FL. Her passion for movement and fitness began at an early age, having always lived an active lifestyle of dancing, soccer and running, working out, amongst other activities. She graduated with a Masters degree in Physical Therapy in 2002 from Florida International University. Since them her Physical Therapy practice has included experience with the geriatric population, post-surgical patients, orthopedic injuries, lymphatic drainage and AromaTouch techniques.

Jenny attended her first Pilates class out of curiosity and instantly fell in love with how Pilates changed her body, posture and overall well-being. She immediately realized she needed to incorporate Pilates as a fundamental part of her treatment as a Physical Therapist so she obtained her education and certification as a Polestar Pilates Rehab Practitioner.

Jenny LOVES being a Pilates teacher because it enables her to not only connect with people, but motivate individuals of all ages to find or regain their strength, vigor as well as their physical and emotional health. She looks forward to helping YOU be in the best physical condition you can be!

On her off time, Jenny mostly enjoys spending time with her three beautiful children, participating in family dinners, paddle boarding and traveling.

Heather Craft, our receptionist, is the first voice you hear when you call our office or come in. She is an outgoing, personable, loving part of our team and responsible for making sure our clients are getting the care and attention they deserve.

She coordinates with the referring doctors to ensure our new patients get scheduled quickly and have necessary prescriptions, etc.  She handles insurance verification and scheduling of Physical Therapy patients in both the South Miami and Kendall offices. She creates new client accounts and educates them on all of the services we have to offer so we can best solve their problems.  Jeanie sets up the Pilates clients with their membreships and/or packages and schedules clients into classes and educates them on how to self-register using our Mindbody scheduling software.  Jeanie also registers people for our workshops and follows-up with our patients and clients to make sure all of their needs are being met.

And most of all her smiling face and warm personality keeps our clients coming back as she makes everyone feel like they are part of our "family."
